About this Event
The Jazzlings are a collective of professional amateur Jazz enthusiasts from NUS. Brought together by their passion for practicing and performing jazz, the collective comprises a wide range of bright-eyed jazz musicians with diverse musical backgrounds and styles up their sleeves. Always celebrating their shared love for jazz music, the Jazzlings hope to bring jazz back to modern audiences through toe-tapping classics and irresistible grooves!
To feature everyone adequately in the collective, The Jazzlings will be splitting their performance into two shows! The first show Jazz in the Attic will feature the group's fluentness in the language of the greats, their attempt at performing traditional, classical Jazz. A night of cherished standards alongside unique arrangements that showcase sparks of spontaneous musicianship, The Jazzlings hope to showcase their appreciation for the giants that came before.
The second show Jazz in the Diaspora will see The Jazzlings showcasing more of what Jazz music is to them, and more of what Jazz music has evolved to become. Inspired by the transcendental and transformative characteristics of jazz music across time and space, they will showcase tunes from different cultures and time periods such as those by Wayne Shorter, Lee Ritenour, and even our very own Joanna Dong!
