Lavenia Nesmith, a native Washingtonian, is a producer, actor, jazz and gospel recording artist. She has performed locally and nationally including Blues Alley, Chrysalis/Merriweather, The State Department, Library of Congress, The Arch of the Capitol, The Washington National Cathedral, Martin Luther King Chapel/Morehouse College, Phillip art Gallery to name a few.
Lavenia has appeared at jazz festivals to include Maryland Museum of African Art, Duke Ellington Jazz Festival, DC Jazz Festival, Cherry Blossom Festival, Mid -Atlantic Jazz Festival.
Lavenia is the Creator and Executive Producer of 3 original productions: A Tribute to Mahalia Jackson, a one woman show; Sista’s Can Sang, A Tribute to Female Legends in Jazz and A Tribute to Nancy Wilson.
Lavenia is the Founder and Curator of The Jazz in the Mills Concert Series, Columbia, Md.
