Hetty Kate's Jazz in Four Seasons Album Launch
"Spring"
Paris-based Australian jazz vocalist Hetty Kate presents her newest album, Spring, Vol. 1, a sparkling homage to the most effervescent of seasons. This is the opening chapter of "Jazz in Four Seasons," her ambitious four-album odyssey recorded across different continents, tracing the calendar year around the world.
Recorded in Prague with four of the city's finest jazz musicians, this collection captures spring's beauty through carefully curated standards from Ellington, Dameron, Brubeck, Strayhorn and more: songs that echo the first buds of the season, melodies that capture the dance of April rain.
Hetty Kate brings her pure tone and natural artistry to the jazz tradition. Compared to "a good champagne: simultaneously effervescent and restrained" by the Sydney Morning Herald, her distinctive approach balances unwavering respect for the lyric with spontaneity and wit, always finding the story in the song.
Hetty came up through Melbourne's vibrant jazz scene before launching an international career that has now spanned two decades, eleven albums and 28 countries. She has performed at many international festivals including Sapporo International Jazz Festival, Jazz à Vienne, and Melbourne International Jazz Festival, and her work extends beyond the concert hall to film, television and theatre. For five years Hetty toured internationally as featured vocalist with Australian jazz luminary James Morrison AM, including his award-winning symphonic concert "The A to Z of Jazz," performing alongside major symphony orchestras. The live recording won a coveted Australian Jazz Bell Award for Best Traditional Album.
Praised as "one of the best swing-style singers on the current scene" by American author and critic Will Friedwald, Hetty's discography spans witty, toe-tapping swing to refined modern jazz, a versatility that defies easy categorisation. Now based in Paris, she continues to tour internationally.
"A stage presence only matched by the clarity of her voice." James Morrison AM (Australia)
"Her phrasing is precise, on point." Alain Thomas, Couleurs Jazz Magazine (France)
"She's the real deal... can bend a blue note any which way and make you smile or smirk or furrow your brow along with her." Lucid Culture (USA)
"Beautiful.. Enchanting" Christian Bragg, JazzFM (UK)
