Five of the top jazz musicians from the area will warm your season with a “Jazzified Christmas”, featuring old seasonal favorites and originals with a jazzy, funky twist. "Yule" be hoppin' and boppin' all the way to Christmas. The band features Rick Lingard as lead vocalist and saxophonist, Juno award-winner Mike Rud on guitar, Dave Restivo on piano, Steve Parrish on drums, and Doug Stephenson on bass.
Previously the music director at Mt. Sentinel Secondary School for over twenty-five years, Rick Lingard now owns and operates the private music school the Kootenay Music Academy (KMA). Rick's past bands include No Excuse, The Atlantics, Playmor Junction Big Band, Hornography and What It Is. Rick has assembled orchestras and directed the music for: “Into the Woods”, “Fiddler on the Roof”, “Footloose”, “The Sound of Music”, “Fame”, “Beauty and the Beast”, “Cabaret”, “Rock of Ages” and “The Fantastiks” among others.
Mike Rud is a Juno award-winning jazz guitarist and songwriter. He is also a music instructor at Selkirk College in Nelson, BC. As an instrumentalist, Mike has played alongside some of the greatest jazz musicians of the era like Peter Bernstein, Kenny Wheeler, Herb Ellis and Joey DeFrancesco. As a songwriter and arranger, Mike won the 2014 Juno Award for his album “Notes on Montreal”, a critically acclaimed musical portrait of the city.
David Restivo is a JUNO award-winning pianist and composer and one of Canada's most respected and influential jazz artists. A sought-after and influential figure in Canada’s jazz community as a 3-time winner of the National Jazz Awards’ Pianist of the Year he has worked with Rob McConnell and The Boss Brass, the Mike Murley Quintet, and legendary songwriter Marc Jordan. Restivo has performed and recorded with such renowned artists as Dave Holland, Curtis Fuller, Mel Torme, Kenny Wheeler, Jon Hendricks, and David Clayton-Thomas.
Steve Parrish has a BA in Audio Engineering from the Berklee College of Music and studied Drum Set at Berklee, jazz drum set privately with Frankie Dunlop (Thelonious Monk, Lionel Hampton). Mentored by the legendary Les Paul at age 17, Steven's also played, engineered and/or programmed tracks for Rock 'n' Roll legend Cub Koda, Ian Hunter, Joe Bouchard of Blue Öyster Cult and Rap artist Stezo-E. He has played Jazz with Anthony Braxton and Pat LaBarbara, Robben Ford, John Handy, Jimmy Haslip, Max Bennett, Bob Mintzer, Frank Gambale, Mike Stern, Pat Mastellotto and Oz Noy, among others.
Doug Stephenson has been an integral member of Western Canada's music community for over thirty years. The Calgary native is a guitarist, bassist, songwriter, and producer. He has performed with a wide range of artists including Melody Diachun, Charlie Rouse, Bob Murphy, Les McCann, Jay Thomas, John Stowell, Tommy Banks, P.J. Perry, Altered Laws, Barry Romberg, Bob Brough, Campbell Ryga, and Blues legend Big Miller.

Mar. 27: Melody Diachun & Friends: Up Jumped Swing: Springtime Jazz in Bloom - Experience the vibrant sounds of spring through fresh interpretations of perennial songs that embody renewal and celebration. Melody, Jazz Artist of the Year at the 2023 Western Canadian Music Awards, will be joined by Kiyoshi Elkuf on tenor saxophone, Mike Rud on guitar, Doug Stephenson on acoustic bass, and Tony Ferraro on drums.
- Sat. Apr. 12: Blue Moon Marquee - JUNO Award Winners Blue Moon Marquee are influenced by anything that swings, jumps or grooves. Jasmine Colette a.k.a. Badlands Jass plays upright bass and a foot drum kit, singing in honey-dipped tones. A.W. Cardinal’s distinctive and soulful vocals accompany his guitar for the swinging energy of jazz-tinged blues.
