About this Event
Join us on Saturday, September 23, 2023 from 5-8 p.m. at Urban Farming Institute's historic Fowler Clark Epstein Farm in Mattapan for an evening of timeless jazz and rhythmic Afro Latin jazz with Jazz Urbane artists Gregory Groover, Jr., Danny Thornburg, Zahili Zamora and their bands.
Raised with devotion for music, Gregory George Groover, Jr is a twenty-nine-year-old tenor saxophonist and educator from Roxbury, Massachusetts. His love and pursuit of music directed him to the Boston Arts Academy where he graduated in 2011 as both the Elma Lewis Graduate with distinction and the Louis Armstrong Jazz award. His effort and dedication to music led him to earn a full tuition scholarship to Berklee College of Music where he received both his Bachelors and Masters in Music Performance Studies through the Global Jazz Institute, headed by world-renowned artistic director, pianist, and UNESCO Artist for Peace Danilo Perez
Danny Thornburg is a composer, arranger, and trombonist from Rapid City, South Dakota, who has lived in Boston since 2018. Danny works closely with Bill Banfield and Zahili Zamora as a writer for and member of the Imagine Orchestra.
Zahili Zamora’s musical career brought her on a professional journey from Cuba, to Canada, to Southeast Asia, to the U.S.A. In September of 2019 she joined the Piano Dept. at Berklee College of Music, and recently obtained her Master of Music in Contemporary Performance, with a concentration in Music Performance Anxiety. Zahili’s rich musical background and career experience render her a leader in the modern Afro Latin jazz idiom. With her former trio, MIXCLA, she’s headlined at the 59th Monterey Jazz Festival, the 2016 Stave Sessions, by Celebrity Series of Boston, and the 2015 Montreal International Jazz Festival. She is currently working on her third album which includes music inspired on her ongoing research on Music Performance Anxiety.
