Jazz & Soul Sessions @ YMI

Banjul-Banjo Music Series presents Jazz & Soul Sessions @YMI is a vibrant new concert series featuring nationally acclaimed artists Kelle Jolly and Will Boyd, making up a dynamic five member house band. Hosted at the historic YMI Cultural Center, this initiative honors the history and celebratesthe rhythm of our legacy in the heart of Asheville, NC.

The Banjul-Banjo Music Series is a regular program at the YMI Cultural Center that celebrates African American music traditions and their deep roots in the African diaspora. Named for Banjul, the capital of Gambia, and the banjo, an instrument brought to the South by enslaved Africans, the series highlights the cultural connections between West Africa and the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Each event features diverse genres such as Jazz, Hip Hop, Soul, Folk, and Neo-Soul, bringing vibrant sounds and soulful experiences to Asheville. This series offers a unique opportunity to honor history, foster community, and showcase the richness of African American musical heritage.
