About this Event
Snacks and all materials needed will be provided for this event
This workshop offers educators a space to reflect, create, and reconnect with the stories that have shaped them. Drawing on the transformative power of art and introspection, participants will create a personalized memory map that weave together fabric, photographs, and personal objects, capturing moments of unspoken joy or quiet challenges from their childhoods.
This process emphasizes the power of art in preserving personal stories, fostering emotional growth, and connecting with cultural legacies. Through this reflective practice, educators will discover tools to inspire creativity and deeper connections in their classrooms. Participants will leave with a finished collage, journaling reflections, and a renewed perspective on how art can support emotional well-being and inspire deeper connections in the classroom.
This event kicks off programming related to Carla’s ongoing visual art series titled Momma Loves Jazz. Momma Loves Jazz honors the profound legacy of Southern Black culture and jazz through an immersive experience. It chronicles the healing journey between a mother and daughter while celebrating the transformative power of jazz and the rich contributions of Black culture.
