Chris Eminizer Sax In a musical career spanning over four decades, Chris has established himself as a respected session player, a versatile sideman, and a stylishly individual improviser and composer.
A transplant from Baltimore, he got his start in the blues bars of Greenwich Village before forming his own original jazz quartet, performing at many of New York’s well-known jazz clubs. Today, he runs Woodshed Music, a boutique studio in Patterson, New York.
Drawing influences from across the musical spectrum, Chris’s original music focuses on strong melodies and layered, creative grooves. His work blends the improvisational elements of jazz with the broad textures of electronic music — and occasional whispers (or shouts) of prog rock.
His first two albums feature singer-songwriter material that reflects his love of lyric writing and guitar, with lush woodwind arrangements woven throughout. His third album moves fully into instrumental territory, with bold motivic statements, genre-bending turns, electronic percussion, and standout performances from stellar musicians. Galactic Rivers, his fourth album, is a true solo project: apart from two tracks, Chris plays every sound on the record. It’s a Jazztronica journey, with detours into prog rock, funk, and techno.
