About this Event
Japanese Stab Binding with Emma Palm @notranslation.wav 6/6 at 7pm. Learn the classic Japanese stab binding techniques for making books with exposed stitchings and single loose leaf pages. This class will cover binding tools and terminology as we create multiple book structures increasing in complexity, from simple to decorative. Intimate session limited to 7 seats.
Library of Technics invites artists and protectors of craft to the Broadcasting Program, where the signal moves freely between source and receiver, continuing the chain of knowledge.
LOT Lab consists of practices in repetition, critical thinking, and manual efficiency that support the formation and repair of neural pathways.
Under the instruction of Emma Palm (Los Angeles)—a Taiwanese-American musician and visual artist—participants will learn the Art of Bookbinding.
Emma’s visual practice centers on collage and book arts, integrating photography, drawing, and physical memorabilia to create abstract mental maps.
Participants will learn introductory bookbinding techniques including terminology, tools, and a range of sewing and folding methods, exploring different book structures from the japanese stab binding angle.
All bindings will be hand-bound and non-adhesive.
This is an introductory class; no prior experience is necessary.
Introductory materials are included. Specialty materials and expanded selections will be available for purchase during class at Library of Technics Bookstore
