Join Floating Art some Japanese Painting in our beginner friendly art workshops where you'll get the chance to paint the scenes and seasons of Japan usig Traditional Japanese Painting materials.
What is Japanese Painting?
Nihonga (日本画) means Japanese Painting. Traditionally you would mix your own pigments with Nikawa Glue and paint onto washi paper or silk. We are Floating Art have designed our very own Japanese Painting experience workshop where you will use Japanese Gansai Tambi paint, sumi ink, gold leaf & bamboo brushes and you'll paint onto rice paper boards (See photos)
Our workshop is beginner friendly and open to all. It's a great way of relaxing and learning! A great way to spend the day with family or friends. The images you see in this listing are all paintings by our students who are mostly people who are beginners and haven't painted in a long time.
You Teacher
Ula Fung will guide you through the workshop which will begin with an introduction to the materials and a painting demonstration to help you get started. She will then oversee the session offering guidance and advice where needed.
Ula has over 15 years of teaching experience and we've been hosting our Japanese Painting workshops in Manchester for around 8 years. She is a practacing artist with her studio based on the top floor of Leigh Spinners Mill
What will you paint?
We will be painting seasonal summer flowers such as Sunflowers, Waterlilies and Irises. We'll provide references from Japanese Painters from the historic and contemporary Japanese Painting world.
Where is this workshop located?
The Iconic Leigh Spinners Mill.It's accessible by public transport or if you're driving, free parking is available on sight, there is lift access to the room and refreshements will be provided on the day.
Make a day of it! Elsewhere within the mill there is a fully functioning restaurant serving delivious fusion food, a bar, a coffee shop a vinyl shop and much much more.
What to bring?
All materials are provided including protective aprons but you could bring a bag to carry your work home in.
Who can join?
This workshop is suitable for beginners upwards.
Ages 14+ If you're aged between 14 & 16 then you must attend with an adult (Both requiring tickets)
