Poets Janine Certo and Chad Sanders will step up to the mic at 4 PM, Sunday, September 29th, in the Copper Chimney Lounge Poetry Series, located at University United Methodist Church, 1120 South Harrison Rd., East Lansing—across the street from MSU and directly north of the Trowbridge Shopping Center.The reading will also include an Open Mic. Attendees wishing to share a poem are invited to throw their names in the basket at the Gate Table. The reading is open to the public. Donations are greatly appreciated.
Janine Certo is the author of 5 books, including 3 full-length poetry collections—"O Body of Bliss," winner of the Longleaf Press Book Contest in Poetry, 2023, "Elixir," winner of the New American Poetry Prize and the Lauria/Frasca Poetry Prize, and "In the Corner of the Living," runner-up for the Main Street Rag Poetry Book Award, 2017; a poetry chapbook, "Home Altar;" and a book of scholarship, "Children Writing Poems: Poetic Voices in and out of School." She is also a winner of the Nimrod International Journal's Pablo Neruda Prize for Poetry. Janine is an associate professor at Michigan State University and a poetry editor at Italian Americana.
Chad Sanders, after 30 years of teaching journalism and graphic design at Lansing Everett High School, now puts what he taught into practice as a communications manager at Michigan State University. Up until recently, his poetic oeuvre was mostly parody songs and bespoke rap. He is a regular at The Poetry Room open mic in Lansing and has been a featured poet at a variety of Michigan events.
The poetry series is produced by the Lansing Poetry Club, an all-volunteer organization whose mission is to engage the community with poetry in innovative ways.
