Presented by Vivente Music.Jane Austen wrote several poems. In this lighthearted concert we present some contemporary musical settings of her poems, including the Australian premiere of a new song cycle by UK composer Chris Gardner that reimagines a selection of Austen’s verse in a variety of musical idioms - even sultry Latin rhythms and the blues.
There is also the world premiere of a miniature cycle of the verses from her teenage writings. To add a little gravitas, Stephen will play the Haydn piano sonata that Austen copied into her manuscript book, plus a song about a sailor based on the first movement.
Please note that the venue is accessible only via a flight of stairs.
