About this Event
Dutch-Canadian tenor James Schouten was trained at Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s Alexander Gibson Opera School and the Royal College of Music. In 2025/26 he performs Narrabot Salome(Regents’ Opera), Froh Das Rheingold (Grange Park Opera, Federico in Ed Lambert’s In Five Years’Time (The Space Theatre, London) and Boris Grigorjevič Káťa Kabanová (New Palace Opera -concert performance). Next season he will debut Parsifal with Regents’ Opera.
Other recent engagements include Oedipus Rex Oedipus Rex (New Palace Opera), The Architect Taj Mahal (Grange Park Opera), Bacchus Ariadne auf Naxos (Trentino Music Festival), Alfred Die Fledermaus (Kentish Opera), Loge Das Rheingold (Regents’ Opera), Laca Jenufa (Fulham Opera), Eisenstein Die Fledermaus (Opera Gold), Jawad in Orlando Gough’s Weather The Storm (Garsington Opera/Rosetta Life), and Nebuchadnezzar in Joseph Cabons' To Himself, Alone.
James won 1st Place and the Audience Prize at the 2024 Carole Rees Mastersingers Competition foryoung Wagnerian singers and 1st place the Ye Cronies Opera Competition at RCS (2023), and was afinalist in the Clonter Opera Prize (2024) and the Marmo All’Opera Competition in Carrara, Italy(2022).
