The Collegiate Chorale and Chamber Orchestra of Kansas State University present James McCarthy's "Codebreaker: The Story of Alan Turing" on Thursday, April 24th at 7:00pm under the direction of Dr. Jamie Bunce, Assistant Director of Choral Studies.
Alan Turing, widely regarded as the “Father of Modern Computers,” is best known for solving the elusive Enigma code the Nazis used to communicate during World War II. Turing’s breakthrough changed the course of the war Europe, shortening it by two years, and saving up to 14 million lives. However, despite his incredible global contributions, he was arrested in 1952 and convicted of “gross indecency” when police discovered his romantic relationship with another man. He was forced to endure a devasting sentence of “chemical castration,” which devastated him physically and emotionally. Sadly, Turing died only two years later, possibly by taking his own life at the age of 41.
Join us for a hauntingly beautiful and very human story of love, grief, triumph, and tragedy. Please note that this performance begins at 7:00pm.
Come early to Danforth Chapel to immerse yourself in Turing's story by walking "Through Space and Time," a special art installation created by students from the K-State Association for Computer Machinery!
