World-leading mapmaker and historian, Professor James Cheshire, introduces the previously lost maps which have changed the course of history and re-shaped our understanding of the world.
Britain’s only Professor of Geographic Information and Cartography, James Cheshire, presents a fascinating exploration of how a long-forgotten map library nestled in the centre of Bloomsbury proved the key to discovering some of the most significant maps and atlases of the last two centuries.
From showing the impact of climate change and inspiring the theory of tectonic plates, to guiding politicians’ actions for better or worse, learn about the role that maps have played in shaping the world and continue to do so.
James Cheshire is Britain’s only Professor of Geographic Information and Cartography. A world-leading map maker, his cartographic creations have been enjoyed by millions. He is an elected fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences and has been recognised with many prestigious awards from the likes of the Royal Geographical Society and the British Cartographic Society. His co-authored book Atlas of the Invisible won the American Association of Geographer’s Globe Award. When he is not making, writing about, or teaching with maps, James spends his time scouring eBay for them in the hope that one day he’ll have a map library of his own.
Books will be sold at the talks and online by The Bookshop at Canterbury Christ Church University.
