About this Event
Jamaica We Come From – Open Mic Night
Join us for an uplifting evening of culture, creativity, and community at Jamaica We Come From, a vibrant open mic experience celebrating the power of spoken word and expression. Inspired by the idea that “if words are not spoken, they die,” this event invites voices of all ages to step forward and be heard.
Hosted by Sister Empress Ma’at 1, the night will showcase poems, rhymes, rhythms, verses, patois, lyrical storytelling, and reflections rooted in Jamaican and Pan-African culture. Whether you’re an experienced performer or simply want to share your voice, this is a welcoming space to express yourself and connect with others.
The evening will also feature special contributions from Uncle Josh (Speaker), Auntie Jenny (Folklorist), and live music from the Heritage Drummers—bringing rich cultural energy to the atmosphere.
