Come support and celebrate the hard work the teens have put into learning songs for a concert and bringing tunes up to speed for dancing. Community Dances are every Tuesday, and occasional other nights. Lovely live music with our kind callers and dance instructors are a great intro to community dancing. If it is your first-time trying set-dancing, come early for simple walkthroughs and instruction on the easier dances. You can expect CONTRAS, SQUARES, CIRCLES, LINES and other traditional and modern PARTNER dance forms. There is no pressure to dance, and there are always willing dance partners as folks switch throughout the evening. No special attire is required, though clean hard soled shoes make it easier. Our focus is on traditional music and dance, but watching, jamming, playing games, crafting, and other pastimes are welcomed and encouraged. There is a family friendly space in the Library.
Most often our enthusiastic local dancer and caller, Harrison Keely hosts an open mic dance from around 8-9pm on Tuesday nights after the regularly scheduled bands and callers. He welcomes and coaches anyone willing to try with a cheat sheet and prompt cues. If a quorum of dance musicians aren't available, the session proceeds with recorded music and contra or partner dancing ensues regardless.
