Welcome one and all. We are enthused to host the next Jam and Dance here at the Interchange. Sure to be a night of wild improvised sounds and movements. Potentially exploring a WIDE range of genres, world, jazz, folk, experimental, free improvised, noise, rock, blues, anything really. Bring your vibe and we'll play around with it!!The intention for this event is to create a zone where musicians of many differing experience levels can have an open space for improvising with new players from around Houston, and dancers can have a padded dance floor to get really wild on and respond to the music.
This will be an informal event, where participants are welcome to come and go as they please.
For millennia humans have played music and danced around the fire, the home, or the stage. I believe that dance and music are inseparable, and the intention of this event is to bring those two practices closer to each other again, in a space that is removed from the more common venue centered around intoxication. It is all to common to go to a show with some really danceable music, and yet no one is dancing.
Back-lined drum kit, guitar amp, bass guitar and amp, vocal mics, percussion, and keyboard will be provided. Please bring your guitar, bass, sticks, horns, flutes, voice, digeridoo, percussion, synthesizer...and whatever you feel called to bring to jam.
The night will be structured in a way where the musicians sign up on a sheet and will rotate throughout the night, creating many different ensembles of duo's, trio's, quartet's, quintets, sextets, and who knows how many all at once. Each ensemble will have an opportunity to explore with that group for three or so songs, then we will rotate new musicians into the group and see what happens next. If only a few musicians show up then we'll jam and rotate with each other and play for hours while others dance.
đȘđđMusic and Dance are the medicine. We invite you to come play and dance as it's own consciousness altering practice. But if you do choose to partake in substances please....
BYOM- Bring your own medicines. Please consume consciously, getting ultra intoxicated is unacceptable at this event, and we reserve the right to ask anyone to leave if they are disturbing the flow of the night for others. **
Entrance to The Interchange is on Hamilton street. You are welcome to park inside the gated area in the Hamilton Street parking lot. Please do not park in front of the Houses on Hamilton street across from the Interchange.
Suggested donation for the night is 10-20$ sliding scale. This event is about bringing people together to connect and explore song and dance and build community, not making money for myself. But please offer a donation so we can pay for the renting of the space and any costs of the event.
Thank You, Ybub Levi
