Two solo exhibitions by Austin based artists Jacqueline May's "New Works" & Melanie Hickerson's "Homage to Miracles". May's oil & mixed media works are dream like visions referencing nature language (braille music diagrams): "I am fascinated by ancient alphabets and languages and the connection with the world of spirit that lives within text. Geometry and pattern come to a living presence with the realization that all of life is born from small repeated inflections that map out to greater results."
Hickerson continues her surrealistic fantastical quest to help save the planet one painting at a time connected through the “ribbon of life”: “Ribbon of Life as butterflies - insects are key to human survival. I use butterflies as a symbol of all insects and bugs. I have seen their decline. Missing are the masses of fireflies the roly polys the monarchs and the beetles of all kinds. I’m thinking about the ribbon of life – respect love kindness courage….”
