In Jacksonville, May Day is about solidarity for all working people and standing up to corporate billionaires --- and the politicians they control --- who threaten our rights and freedoms.
FL Gov. Ron DeSantis and the state legislature are union busters. They created major barriers to thwart the organizing efforts of teachers, municipal workers, nurses, transit workers, and other public sector employees. These workers teach our children, ensure our cities run smoothly, take care of our sick and elderly, drive our buses, and help us in countless other ways. They --- not billionaires --- are the backbone of our community. They need and deserve collective bargaining power to negotiate fair wages and benefits, and workplace conditions that benefit all workers. Hardworking people—real workers—all across the country have always been the ones who keep the economy running.
It’s time to speak up and fight back. It’s time to hit them in their pocketbooks.
**No Work No School No Shopping** Workers over billionaires!
Join us and people in communities throughout the country in flexing our collective muscle and economic power – as we unite to support workers’ rights, a living wage, the right to organize, and the immigrant workforce, and speak out against government over-reach and anti-democratic action at home and abroad.
**No Work No School No Shopping** Workers over billionaires!
Take what action you can. Your personal circumstances may not allow you to stay home from school or work, but **everyone can skip shopping** on May 1st.
Then join us at the St. Johns Town Center (in front of Wells Fargo Bank) on May Day and SPEAK OUT! This protest is being organized by Indivisible Mandarin, the Beaches Activists Movement, Indivisible Southside, the North Florida Central Labor Council, and other pro-worker organizations.
**SAFETY REMINDERS: Bring water and hydrate before, during, and after the protest. Protect yourself from the sun (hat, umbrella & sunscreen). Bring a friend (or three)!**
*Please note: A core principle behind all our events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.*
