About this Event
In this 20 minute talk Richard Farmer will talk about his new book 'Jack's Journey,' and its connection to Bridgend Farmhouse.
The book describes their journey through his son Jack's illness of Perthes and is a testament to the healing potential of adventure as the family visit less travelled locations on their journey from Hong Kong to Edinburgh.
A MOVING REMINDER THAT EVEN IN THE BLEAKEST TIMES, HOPE AND NEW
BEGINNINGS AWAIT
When seven-year-old Jack is diagnosed with Perthes disease, a rare childhood hip disorder, his
family’s world is turned upside down.
As Jack faces surgery and a long recovery, his teacher-parents must navigate both the challenges
of expatriate life and the emotional turmoil of deciding to uproot their home, leading them on an
extraordinary journey from the lush hills of Hong Kong’s Sai Kung to the vibrant streets of South
America, the empty steppes of Mongolia and Russia, and on to the new life awaiting them in
Scotland…
Jack’s Journey is the remarkable story of a family determined not to let adversity define them as
they explore lesser-travelled locations around the world. With humour, honesty and compassion,
this memoir is a testament to the power of resilience, community, and – most of all – the healing
potential of adventure.
