About this Event
"J. Franklin Jameson and the American Revolution on the Eve of the 250th" will convene leading scholars of the American Revolution to reconsider the principal scholarly work of the Revolution's 1926 sesquicentennial commemoration, J. Franklin Jameson's The American Revolution Considered as a Social Movement. In panels organized around the themes of Jameson’s four chapters (the Revolution’s consequences for the status of persons, land, industry and commerce, and thought and feeling), presenters will explore the lasting significance of Jameson's work and take stock of how the last century of scholarship has built upon his questions and arguments.
This symposium will take place in the Montpelier Room in the Madison Building of the Library of Congress on November 21, 2025. Registrants will receive pre-circulated papers drafted by each presenter, which should be reviewed by all attendees prior to the event.
