J-Film | Tampopo

Presented by Japan Information & Culture Center, Embassy of Japan and Japan Commerce Association of Washington D.C. with support from Hokkaido Ramen Santouka.

Our next J-Film is Tampopo, ITAMI Juzo’s hilarious and acclaimed “Noodle Western.”

Tampopo follows its titular character, played by MIYAMOTO Nobuko, as she assumes the responsibility of her late husband’s ramen shop. With the help of two truck drivers passing through town (WATANABE Ken, YAMAZAKI Tsutomu), she learns how to prepare the perfect bowl of ramen. Surrounding their story is a chaotic tapestry of subplots and vignettes, ranging from the hilarious to the sensuous. Altogether, they create a masterful exploration of into food, desire, and human connection.
