J-Film | A Samurai In Time
Presented by the Japan Information & Culture Center, Embassy of Japan and Japan Commerce Association of Washington D.C.
Our next J‑Film screening is A Samurai in Time, Japan's latest indie film sensation.
When an Edo-period samurai is struck by lightning during a duel, he wakes up on the set of a modern-day samurai movie. Mistaken for an actor, he begins to stumble through green screens, camera takes, and fake sword fights. However, soon his honor and master swordsmanship begin to catch the attention of everyone around him.
Shot on a shoestring budget and initially released in just a single theater, A Samurai in Time quickly gained word-of-mouth buzz for its charm, humor, and unique premise. It then went on to a historic win at the 48th Japan Academy Awards on March 14, becoming the first independent film to win best feature.
You won't want to miss this offbeat, crowd-pleasing gem that touches on something timeless.
