About this Event
Guatemalan director Jayro Bustamante offers a window into the life of Guatemala’s Mayan community. Ixcanul (meaning Volcano in the Kaqchikel language) follows seventeen-year-old Maria as she struggles with her family’s expectations and her own dreams. In Indiewire, Carlos Aguilar called it “an ethereal masterpiece whose breathtaking beauty is layered with sociopolitical undertones while always honoring the indigenous people at its center.”
