About this Event
Lecture Overview:
Peri-implantitis is a pathological condition occurring in tissues around dental implants. It is caused by microorganisms and characterized by inflammation in the peri-implant connective tissue and loss of supporting bone. Registry data on patients with dental implants will be presented to underpin the relevance of peri-implantitis from a population perspective. Treatment of peri-implantitis will be illustrated and results reported in clinical trials will be presented. Focus will made to the European S3 level Clinical Practice Guideline for the prevention and treatment of peri-implant diseases. Factors influencing resolution of peri-implantitis following surgical therapy will be discussed. Thus, the effect of adjunctive systemic antibiotics in surgical therapy and the influence of implant surface characteristics on the outcome of surgical treatment of peri-implantitis will be addressed. Long-term data on the potential benefit of using bone graft materials in surgical therapy of peri-implantitis will also be presented.
Learning Objectives:
The lecture will illustrate the new European Guidelines on the Prevention and treatment of peri-implant diseases, and the following topics will be addressed:
· Principles and treatment concepts
· Which methods should be used? Which methods should not be used?
· Implant surface decontamination procedures: Which protocols are recommended?
· Systemic antibiotics: Does it help? Is it justified?
· Reconstructive procedures: Are bone grafts or bone substitute materials required?
