About this Event
Join us for the first session in our Italy series, beginning with an in-depth exploration of Central Italy — and the endlessly captivating winemaking regions of Tuscany.
We’ll dive into the Sangiovese heartland, tasting through Chianti Classico DOCG, Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, and a Super Tuscan representative: the second wine of the iconic Tenuta San Guido from Bolgheri DOC.
Alongside the tasting, we’ll explore the story behind the Super Tuscan movement — a revolution in Italian winemaking led by pioneering oenologists like Giacomo Tachis, who introduced Bordeaux-style structure and international prestige to the region.
We’ll also touch on the ingenuity of Leonardo da Vinci, whose sketchbook drawings hinted at an early version of the airlock — a key innovation in wine fermentation that allows air to escape without letting oxygen in during the wine’s expansive phase.
As a bonus, we’ll cross into Umbria, Tuscany’s lesser-known neighbour, to taste two bold wines made from indigenous grapes: Sagrantino and Trebbiano Spoletino, grown in the region’s forested hills and valleys.
Expect a rich evening of history, bold wines, and Italian charm.
Plus, enjoy an exclusive 10% discount in-store during and after the event.
