ISV Lab Gathering 2026 - A Taste of Hope

A Taste of Hope, the second event of ISV Lab’s Transcending Boundaries series, will be served by Kaushic Biswas, a HK-based Indian missionary and social worker, alongside a masterfully cooked Indian dinner. Trained as a chef since he was young and served in top hotels in India and Thailand, Kaushic once worked as a pimp selling trafficked women for sex to wealthy clients.

At the event, Kaushic will share with us flavours and stories of the rich Indian culture, his personal journey from a chef to a pimp and eventually to a missionary and social worker, as well as an insider’s perspective on the social barriers and structural issues faced by Indians and other ethnic minorities in Hong Kong.

ISV Lab「邊界之上」系列第二場活動，將由紮根香港的印度裔傳教士及社會工作者 Kaushic Biswas 與我們分享，席間更為大家獻上一頓精心烹調的印度晚宴。Kaushic 自幼接受廚師訓練，曾任職於印度及泰國的頂級酒店。然而，他曾一度陷入人口販賣的泥沼，淪為皮條客，向富裕客戶販賣女性從事性交易。

在是次活動中，Kaushic 將與我們分享豐富的印度文化風味與故事，講述他從廚師到皮條客、再蛻變為傳教士及社會工作者的個人心路歷程，並以親歷者的視角，剖析在港印度人及其他少數族裔所面對的社會障礙與結構性問題。

本次活動將以英語主講。

About the speaker

Kaushic Biswas is originally from India and trained as a chef. Young Kaushic was trapped into sex trafficking trade and worked as a pimp in Mumbai. Kaushic escaped and resumed his career as a chef in Thailand, before coming to Hong Kong in 1996.

In Hong Kong, Kaushic found his calling and started his first project in Chungking Mansions where he offered culinary training to South Asian ethnic minorities for 7 years. Through cooking, Kaushic changed the lives of sex workers, drug addicts and refugees, gave them hope and a new beginning.

After serving in the Philippines for 8 years as missionaries, Kaushic and his family now return to Hong Kong. Once again he aims to leverage his culinary skills and his personal story to reach out and support the most vulnerable among South Asian ethnic minorities, and to raise awareness among HK locals about the livelihoods of the EM community.

Kaushic is multilingual, speaking Hindi, Nepali, Urdu, Bengali, English, and “siu siu” Cantonese! 😅 He is happily married to Dang, and they are blessed with five children.

Kaushic Biswas 來自印度，自幼接受廚師訓練。年少的Kaushic 曾深陷人口販賣的泥沼，在孟買從事皮條客工作。其後，他成功脫身，在泰國重拾廚師生涯，並於1996年來到香港。

在香港，Kaushic 找到了自己的使命，在重慶大廈展開他的第一個計劃，為南亞少數族裔提供廚藝培訓。七年間，Kaushic 透過烹飪，改變了性工作者、吸毒者及難民的生命，為他們帶來希望與新的開始。

在菲律賓擔任傳教士八年後，Kaushic 與家人如今重返香港，再度以廚藝技能與親身經歷為橋樑，致力接觸並支援南亞少數族裔中最脆弱的一群，同時喚起香港本地人對少數族裔社群生活處境的關注。

Kaushic 精通多種語言，能說印地語、尼泊爾語、烏都語、孟加拉語及英語，更懂得 siu siu 廣東話！他與妻子 Dang 婚姻美滿，育有五名子女。

Dinner will be served at Manna Tai Kok Tsui, a restaurant operated by Manna, a Christian NGO that alleviates poverty and empowers the underprivileged through food and beverages services and social services. Manna provides more than 100,000 free meals to the underprivileged each year, in Hong Kong and the Philippines.

About the series

A devastating war broke out in Iran on 28 February 2026. America finally announced a 2-week ceasefire on 8 April 2026, only for the region to be greeted by the most violent attack the next day. Military actions take place at lightning speed, however the underlying conflicts have taken decades to build up.

While it is not possible for us, citizens living on a different continent, to fully understand the causes leading to military conflicts, the war reminds us that mutual understanding and respect for people from different countries, races and religions is the precious basis upon which peace can be built.

To promote learning in history, society and culture of different people and to nurture cross-cultural understanding and respect, ISV Lab launched the new series “Transcending Boundaries” in 2026, featuring guest speakers who share their personal experiences and stories about Iran, Afghanistan, India and more.
