About this Event
Please join us as we welcome back to American University, Professor Roy Horovitz, who will discuss the role of art and theater in today's Israel. Israel boasts the highest rate of theatergoers in the world, with a National Theater (Habima) that pre-dates the state.
Horovitz is a senior lecturer in the Department of Comparative Literature at Bar-Ilan University and teaches courses on modern interpretations of the Bible on the stage, contemporary trends in Israeli theater and the preoccupation of Israeli playwrights with the Holocaust. One of Israel’s foremost actors and directors, he is globally celebrated for his work on stage, TV, and film. In addition to his outstanding performances, Roy has taught and conducted workshops at universities and school theater departments across Israel.
This program is made possible through the generous support of the Ken and Mimi Heyman Israel Studies Programming Fund.
