Since 2018 Amy's Pastelillos has been highlighting one particular "fritura" (fried snack) from the island of Puerto Rico - the pastelillo. Amy's Pastelillos began as a tribute to her mother - a lifelong cook - which has evolved to a popup concept and wholesale business. You can find Amy at popup events throughout the city and can enjoy a variety of Puerto Rican eats along with pastelillos - the star of the show. Amy's Pastelillos looks to bring familiar and nostalgic flavors to the masses and introduce Puerto Rican food culture to the city of Philadelphia. She also uses this platform as a way to spotlight Puerto Rican cuisine that oftentimes goes unnoticed in the city's foodspace. Follow Amy's Pastelillos on Instagram for events and popup information.

Melissa Fernando was born in Sri Lanka, and moved to Chennai, India as a child to escape civil war. Through frequent visits to Sri Lanka, long chats with her grandmother, nights drinking and eating with her cousins and Sri Lankan friends, she developed a love for food: Lamprais, Curries, Hoppers, Kottu Roti, Short Eats and different sambols. When her grandmother passed away more than ten years ago, Melissa was living in Philadelphia. She started to cook Sri Lankan food to feel the love and belonging she had felt when they were together, recreating her favorite dishes and other meals that reminded her of her Sri Lankan family.

Melissa spent hours cooking for her friends and relatives, forging a sense of community and home for herself in Philadelphia. Fast forward to 3 years ago when Sri's Company officially launched. She strives to cook authentic Sri Lankan food, recreating dishes she loved and remembers from many visits to the island.

On her cuisine, Melissa writes: "Sri Lankan food is constantly evolving, with the Indian, Dutch, Portuguese, and English all influencing the cuisine over time. It is the perfect food to create a home when home isn’t exactly a place."

You can catch Sris Company popping up around the city. Follow her on IG or Facebook for an updated schedule of events.
