A special seminar on Islamic Law of Inheritance, Islamic Wills & Estate Planning in the context of English Law.
About this Event

The Office of National Statistics reveals that 70% of British die without leaving a will. This implies a death in intestacy. Consequently, this leads to delays in dissolving an estate, there might be heavy inheritance tax (40%) implications due to lack of estate planning, possibility of litigation between heirs might hypes up etc.

For Muslims the implication of dying without an Islamic will indicates that all the verses of Quran and ahadith pertaining to inheritance (mirath) will be infringed. Moreover, it will result in failure to meet one of the higher objectives of shari’ah i.e., protection of one’s wealth and protection of one’s progeny. Hence, in light of the above, Minarah Academy in collaboration with the Muslim College present a 1-day seminar on these themes to educate and create an awareness.

The objectives are:

1. To highlight the importance of implementing the Islamic law of inheritance within the English legal system.

2. To explicate the fundamental principles to consider when drafting and Islamic will.

3. To introduce some basic tools of estate planning.

Course Content:

- Importance of Islamic law of Inheritance within a British context

- Drafting an Islamic will under English law

- Will vs Wasiyyah

- Importance of legacy planning

- How legacy planning should be done using specialist wills and trusts?

- Planning for the death of a business partner
