Is there an alternative to Alternative Provision?

This is part of a series of monthly events on radical education.
Mainstream schools are increasingly failing to meet many children's needs. The landscape of alternative education is vast; places at special schools are expensive and hard to come by. In the meantime, 58,000 children in England with nowhere else to go are placed into Alternative Provision (AP) this is a number that is increasing year on year. Whilst APs can serve as a necessary safety net for some, how do class, race and cultural biases around behaviour and diagnoses determine which children end up outside of mainstream education and attending an AP (alternative provision)? With the increasing privatisation of public spaces who are the parties with capital interests in the expansion of APs profiting from the exclusion of societies’ most vulnerable children?
Join us on Tuesday 11th November at 6:30 in the PRSC to discuss.

We are a grassroots, volunteer-run, socialist education group. Bringing together activists, trade unionists, and everyone who wants to learn, we’re creating the space to discuss the most important issues facing us, equipping us with the skills and knowledge to transform Bristol and the world.
Bristol Transformed is run by dozens of local people. Without new people coming in every year, we wouldn't be able to maintain the same standard of political education events that you enjoy. If you'd be interested in joining us, sign up as a BT volunteer today and we'll be in touch! https://cloud.seatable.io/dtable/forms/d3a761c9-4c79-4b10-b38e-50bbad501bcc/
