WHY IS IRYS DIFFERENT?

PHOTOGRAPHY AT ITS BEST
We didn’t build Irys because we wanted to be in the tech game — we built this app because we couldn’t find the answers to many of the challenges the photography community is facing.
Social media plays a powerful role in the creative world, but in recent years, the pressure to stay visible and the shift away from still photography have left many image-makers feeling overlooked and worn out. We’re committed to creating something positive for the industry, both online and offline with Irys meet-ups, talks, exhibitions and more.
Irys is a place to connect but also as a place to be discovered. We’ll be actively scouting talent and partnering with industry leaders to create opportunities for the Irys community.
That is why we are building Irys not only as a social media platform but as an ecosystem with an in-house magazine (coming in 2026), a book publishing house, an agency and a gallery network.

You may have come across his monochrome images captured across the globe, dramatically lit portraits, or candid shots of dogs spotted on street corners. Or maybe you’ve heard of SPi, the platform he co-founded to celebrate street photographers worldwide. Or was it on YouTube, popping out from behind a bush to help you master backlighting?
Whether as an artist or an educator, Alan has spent the past decade building and nurturing online spaces that make photography more fun, welcoming, and connected, from a personal Instagram page with over a million followers, to a thriving YouTube channel, to Street Photography International, now the largest online resource for street photography.
But as the online world started working against, rather than for, photographers, Alan decided to take matters into his own hands, gather a team, and build photography a new home.
