About this Event

King’s College Hospital and King’s Commercial Services invite all nurses to attend the iRescue: Deteriorating Patient Course, created and developed by King’s Critical Care Outreach team. Reducing the incidences of avoidable patient deterioration is a key safety priority at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Without doubt, this is a safety priority in hospitals around the world. Therefore, it is crucial that staff in these areas are confident in recognising and responding to sudden acute deterioration in these patients.

COURSE AIM:

This course will provide you with a foundation knowledge and understanding of patient deterioration within acute hospital wards. You will develop skills in assessment of a deteriorating patient using an ABCDE approach. You will expand your understanding of the impact human factors in deteriorating patients, and develop skills such a communication, leadership and teamwork to aid with management of deteriorating patients.

DELIVERY METHOD:

This course is delivered via blended learning, which consists of:

• e-Learning module: (Approx.4 Hours to complete) Interactive sessions focused on ABCDE assessment, Virtual skills workshop and Common patient scenarios. At the end of the e-learning there is an assessment to test the candidates knowledge. Candidates will need to pass this prior to attending the study day.

• A full face-to-face study day, held at King’s Academy: (The Duchess of Edinburgh officially opens King’s Academy - King's College Hospital NHS Foundation TrustFace to face study day of interactive group work and simulation to put into practice knowledge and skills learnt from e-learning. This contains focus on teamwork, human factors and leadership in emergency scenarios, Safe learning environment to build confidence and finally the study day is assessed and participants receive a certificate of completion.

CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION:

Once both on-line module and study day are marked as complete, all successful nurses will receive:

• A Certificate of Completion (valid for 4 years)

• Pocket card with SBAR and PACE aide memoire
