The Irish Post-Medieval Archaeology Group (IPMAG) is pleased to announce our upcoming weekend conference in Waterford city exploring the theme of Death and Superstition in Post-Medieval Ireland. This conference seeks to bring together archaeologists, historians, folklorists, and interdisciplinary scholars to examine how death, burial practices, and belief systems shaped—and were shaped by—the social and cultural fabric of Ireland in the post-medieval period (c. AD 1550–1900). From ritual protections and burial customs to the archaeology of fear, remembrance, and folk belief, we invite papers that explore how the dead were treated and how superstition manifested in material and immaterial ways.
