ACCREDITED TRAINING IN BUSHCRAFT SKILLS
This accredited training course is designed for instructors, leaders and teachers who want to demonstrate that they follow good practice and have a high level of safety and competency in a range of bushcraft skills.
This 2 day course is designed for the outdoor learning workforce including FE/HE students, apprentices, instructors and teachers. It is suitable for a wide range of people working or volunteering in formal or non-formal settings such as early years, schools, colleges, outdoor centres, education centres, wildlife trusts, national parks, youth and voluntary organisations. Wherever you are on your journey into bushcraft we aim to bring your confidence and skillset forward to the next level.
This 2 day course is open to all with an interest in passing bushcraft skills and knowledge on to others. The course covers 5 key bushcraft skill units; edged tools – knives & saws, fire, water, tarp shelters & knots and campfire cooking.
Our weekend long course is all set against the backdrop of mixed woodlands, wetlands and open meadows of Park In The Past, with 120 acres of wild space to explore. Students are encouraged to camp over in the woods, with the option of staying over on both the Friday and Saturday, or just Saturday night.
This course covers five essential bushcraft skillsets…
SKILLS COVERED INCLUDE:
* Pitching Tarp Shelters, Knots & Lashings: siting your shelter, hazards, wild camping law, pitching tarps, considering weather, essential knots & lashings, organising your cordage.
* Campfire Cooking: practical methods including dutch oven, reflector oven, billy cans, direct ember cookery, using pot hangers, campcraft, baking on your fire, understanding the fire.
* Safe Use of Edged Tools & Knife Law: knife hazards & safety, cutting techniques, feathering/shaving, battoning, safe use of saws, UK knife law.
* Establishing Fires & Leaving No Trace: prep & use of natural and man-made tinders, different ignition methods, building your fire, boiling water on your fire, extinguishing & dismantling your fire, leaving no trace, fire safety & first aid.
* Water Sourcing, Filtering & Purification: sources of water, using a ground well, indicators of water, purifying & filtering water safely, improvised & commercial filters.
* Camp out under the trees and stars (optional).

The course costs £235.00 for an adult.
Included in your ticket is the option to sleep out in the woods on both Friday and/or Saturday nights. Or you can bring your own tent, hammock or tarp system to setup under the trees here. Hammocks (with covering tarps) are available to hire from us at an additional £20 for the weekend.
ABOUT YOUR TUTOR
James is a Bushcraft Instructor and Forest School Leader. He has been working in environmental conservation over over 10 years now. He received the Bushcraft Competency Certificate awarded through the Institute for Outdoor Learning after 2 years of study. He was also the Project Manager for Long Wood Community Woodland, the largest community owned woodland in Wales, overseeing management of 300 acres of broadleaf and conifer forest.
ABOUT THE VENUE
Park In The Past comprises 120 acres of outstanding natural beauty offering woodlands and wetlands, a magnificent 35-acre lake and the gorgeous River Alyn winding through it, as well as wonderful walks and spacious fields. Visitors can journey back 2,000 years and discover the recreated Roman Fort Build, an ongoing project in experimental archaeology and the only one of its kind in the UK.
