About this Event

4 Week Session Cycle (Thursdays)

Session 1 – Helping with Understanding
March 19 or April 16

Session 2 – Helping with Awareness
March 26 or April 23

Session 3 – Helping with Action: Communication
April 2 or April 30

Session 4 – Helping with Action: Reinforcement
April 9 or May 7


Invitation to Change (ITC) Skills Group

A supportive group for family members and friends of someone experiencing substance use challenges. This group provides a welcoming, non-judgmental space to learn practical ways to support your loved one while also taking care of yourself.

The group is based on the Invitation to Change (ITC) approach, which focuses on compassion, connection, and relationship-based strategies. Participants will learn skills that can be used in everyday situations to improve communication, reduce conflict, and encourage positive change.


Who should attend

This group may be helpful for:
• Parents, caregivers, spouses, partners, siblings, or close friends
• Anyone worried about a loved one’s alcohol or drug use
• People unsure how to talk about substance use without arguments
• Those wanting to stay supportive without enabling
• Anyone feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or alone in this situation

No prior experience or training is needed. You are welcome whether your loved one is actively using, in treatment, in recovery, or not ready for change.


How it works

• Register once for the ITC Skills Group
• Attend any session(s) within the 4 week cycle
• You do not have to attend all four sessions, but it is encouraged
• Sessions repeat monthly, so you may begin at any time


What you will learn

• How to better understand your loved one’s behavior
• What helps people become ready for change
• How to respond when they are not ready
• Ways to have more productive conversations about substance use
• Practical skills for encouraging healthier choices
• How to care for yourself during this process
• How to stay connected even during difficult times
