Invisible Endings: Helene Due, Carl Mannov, Nicky Sparre-Ulrich, Sylvester Vogelius, Gustav Wideberg
Vernissage Friday 27.9, 6-9pm
Exhibition 27.9–19.10 2024
Open Thursday—Saturday 1-4pm and by appointment.
The exhibition is organised and curated by Nicky Sparre-Ulrich and Gustav Wideberg.
Helene Due (b. 1994) lives and works in Copenhagen, where she graduated from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2023. Helene Due works across the fields of installation, painting, assemblages, scenography and music. Combining painting with found and modified objects, Helene Due questions the stability of the material world and our place within it. Due’s practice combines the everyday with the fantastic through subtle fabulations —asking for more than reality can account for. Her works have been shown at Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Jenniffee-See, AGA- Works, Coyote, all Copenhagen, among other places and she has performed at several venues including Øhavet Festival, Information and Primer
Carl Mannov (b. 1990) lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark and Oslo, Norway. He uses painting and other mediums to explore the role that fiction plays in the formation of identity, drawing on his own experience and theatrical upbringing as a source of maxims. Carl Mannov has previously exhibited at Salzburger Kunstverein, Austria, La Casa Encendida, Spain, The National Museum, Norway and recently at Den Frie Centre for Contemporary Art, Copenhagen and Union Pacific gallery in London. Upcoming projects include a solo exhibition at Kunstnerforbundets Ovenlyssal, Oslo in 2025 and Huset for Kunst og Design, Holstebro in 2026.
Nicky Sparre-Ulrich (b. 1986) lives and works in Copenhagen. His practice explores the potential of materials, pushing the boundaries of traditional painting while engaging with themes of alienation and distorted realities. Drawing from personal experience, his work questions societal structures and norms. Sparre-Ulrich holds a degree from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (2017) and attended UDK Berlin (2015). His work has been exhibited at Niels Borch Gallery, Gether Contemporary, Tom Christoffersen, Kunsthal Charlottenborg, and Kunsthal Brænderigården, among others. In addition to his artistic practice, he has a curatorial practice and is the founder of the artist-run platform Sans Souci.
Sylvester Vogelius (b. 1992) lives and works in Copenhagen. Using mediums ranging from installation, text, sculpture, collage, to performance, his practice delves into the fallibility and adaptability of found objects, living beings and other particles. Vogelius holds a BA in Architecture (2016). He attended Städelschule, Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Frankfurt (2021), and Düsseldorf Kunstakademie (2023), and is currently enrolled at the MFA- program at The School of Sculpture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. His work has been exhibited at the Nikolaj Kunsthal, SixtyEight Art Institute, Matteo Cantarella, Kunsthal Charlottenborg, all Copenhagen, 17th Venice Architecture Biennale, and Deutsche Foto Institut, among others.
Gustav Wideberg (b. 1984) lives and works in Malmö. He studied fine arts at Gerrit Rietveld Acadmie in Amsterdam, NL. His practice, which ranges across painting, sculpture and installation, is embedded in collecting, archiving and processing various materials through an intuitive and synchronic methodology often seeking to surprise or be surprised. Gustav Wideberg has exhibited at Skf Konstnärshuset, Stockholm, Tre kronor, Stockholm, Tredje Våningen, Göteborg, Alta Art Space, Malmö and Ellen de Bruijne in Amsterdam. He has a forthcoming exhibition at Konstepedimin in Göteborg later this year. Together with Mattias Eliasson he runs Ugo Experimental Platform and has organised several exhibitions and events in Malmö and beyond.
