About the eventMRC runs one of the largest licensed mangrove nurseries in the state of Florida. Our Palm Bay property borders the Indian River Lagoon. On the Lagoon, invasive species, like the Brazilian pepper tree, can outgrow native species. In order to promote growth of native species, MRC staff will remove invasive species multiple times a year.
What will volunteers do?
At invasive species removals, volunteers will use power tools and garden equipment to cut down invasive trees and other plant species.
What will volunteers need to bring or wear?
Volunteers should be prepared to be in the Florida heat and humidity. Hats, water, sunscreen (or UPF clothing) are required. Gloves, shovels, and kneepads are available but feel free to bring your own from home! There is an on-site bathroom and water fountain.
