Introductory Tai Chi 4-week Series (hybrid: in-person or virtual)

When: Once a week for four weeks on Tuesdays from 5:45pm-6:45pm CT, from November 19th - December 17th, 2024 (no class on 11/26).

Description:

Tai Chi, a form of mind-body exercise, originated as a martial art in China. The practice consists of a choreographed sequence of slow, fluid, and intentional movements. It aims to promote circulation, induce relaxation, reduce stress, improve strength and balance, and foster concentration Introductory level introduces 2-3 Yang Style Tai Chi movements for body awareness and relaxation. Class practice includes standing, stepping and weight shifting along with coordinated breathing and gentle upper body movement.

All Osher Movement Classes are facilitated by an instructor with experience and specific training working with participants with chronic pain and conditions.

This class is a part of our "M1" Suitability Code Category on our Movement Class Suitability Guide (see below).

M1 classes are suitable for those with some physical limitations and those new to the practice. Modifications available if support of a chair or the wall is needed.

How our hybrid offerings work:

We will schedule the class as virtual in the MyHealth at Vanderbilt Patient Portal, but you have the choice with each session if you prefer to do in-person or Telehealth.

•In-person classes sessions will occur at the Osher Center for Integrative Health at Vanderbilt. We are located at 3401 West End Avenue, Suite 380, Nashville TN 37203. Parking is behind the building. We will provide parking validation. The building is owned by Highwoods Properties, and it looks like a corporate office. Should you need assistance in getting to our center, you can call 615-343-1554. Please note that our scheduling line will not be available for evening classes after 5:30pm.

• Virtual class sessions will be accessible through the My Health at Vanderbilt portal (available through the internet and/or our app. More info will be provided to join class upon registration.

• You do not need to notify our center regarding in-person or virtual attendance. We are ready for you virtually or in-person! It is totally up to you.

Cancellation policy:

Participants may cancel up to one week before start date without penalty, after that date, there is a 20% cancellation fee. No refund is available after the class start date.
