Introduction to Youth Mental Health First Aid
This course is for West Lothian Council staff only - please sign up using your WLC email address.
We are delighted to be able to offer the Mental Health First Aid course with no cost to delegates. However there is a cost to running the programme. Please can we ask when booking the place you are able to commit to attending on the day. We have a number of people waiting on a place on the course.
The course commences sharp at 0930, please arrive a little earlier if you can.
The aim of this course is to provide you with increased knowledge, skills and awareness around Youth Mental Health First Aid. For some staff this will be an opportunity to revisit knowledge you already have and think about how mental health is discussed comfortably with young people you may work with.
This is a 1-day course, which will include assessment/s to ensure your understanding. Please do not worry about the assessment/s, support will be provided to you.
Please note, in order to gain accreditation/qualification, you must stay until the end of the training and complete the assessment.

- Understand the role of first aid for youth mental health
- Know how to provide support for youth mental health
- Understand the common youth mental health conditions
- Know the recognition signs of stress in youths and how to manage them
- Understand how substance abuse can impact on youth mental health
- Understand how to put an action plan in place for youth mental health
