About this Event

This beginner-friendly class is designed to help you take your first steps into the world of video editing. Whether you’re working on short films, social media content, or personal projects, you’ll learn the essential tools and techniques to bring your footage to life.


What You’ll Learn:



  • Why editing is a critical part of storytelling in film and video
  • How to organize your footage within your editing software
  • Basic editing tools and how to use them effectively
  • How to edit audio, including music and sound effects
  • Techniques for polishing your final video with titles and color correction
  • How to export your finished project and where to share it

This class is perfect for anyone new to editing or looking to build a solid foundation. You’ll leave with practical skills and a better understanding of how to shape your footage into a compelling final product.


 


What to Bring:



  • Laptop with editing software installed (e.g., Premiere Pro, Final Cut, DaVinci Resolve) We will not be providing access to video editing platforms.
  • Headphones
  • Optional: External hard-drive for extra storage.

Meet your Instructor


Scott Spears has been working in film and video production for over forty years. He started out working with Super-8. He has shot over thirty one feature films, numerous short films, commercials and music videos. Scott is a two time Regional Emmy Award winner, first for his cinematography on the short film, “The Birthmark” which aired nationally on PBS and as a producer/director on the Underground Railroad documentary, “A Higher Law: The Oberlin-Wellington Rescue of 1858.” He teaches filmmaking at Ohio State University and has taught three other colleges.
