Spring Organic Vegetable Gardening in the Bay Area
Saturday March 28th, 10:00 am - 12:30 pm
This IN-PERSON WORKSHOP will be hosted at Alemany Farm
Instructors: Tamara Kahhale, supported by Vanessa Lieu
Interested in planting a vegetable garden but not sure what to plant or where to start? Come to Alemany Farm to learn the basics of getting your garden up and running and ideal planting times for each crop in a Bay Area climate. In this 2.5 hour workshops we will discuss basic planting techniques, soil preparation, basic irrigation needs, and some challenges that one can expect. The workshop will include lecture, Q&A, and some hand-on learning.
Tamara Kahhale (she/her) is a former electrical engineer turned baker who was in the climate technology solutions space before realizing that she wanted to approach the climate crisis from an urban agricultural and land-based perspective. Since shifting, she has developed a deep passion for regenerative agriculture and soil health, as well as food justice and sovereignty, and community-driven practices. Tamara joined the Alemany team in January 2025 and has already learned an incredible amount about not just proper land stewardship from a climate lens, but also about what it means to actually give back to a community in an impactful way. She is truly honored to be part of such an incredibly unique space, and is so excited to continue both learning from and supporting folks at Alemany Farm (and in life!).

We also do not want money to be a barrier to entry. Please reach out if you would like to attend but are unable to donate. If you can afford to make a bigger donation, your contribution will support the work of Alemany Farm and the opportunity for others with more limited funds to attend this class.
Q&A
Is there parking onsite?
Yes, we have parking onsite. You can also find in the surrounding neighborhood. We encourage carpooling, biking and using public trasport if available to you.
Can I get to the farm on public transport?
Yes! Muni works and Glen Park BART is a 15 min walk away. We recommend using the written directions at the bottom of this page as Google Maps can be a little misleading.
What happens if it rains?
Rain will likely cancel and we will try to reschedule. If rain is in the forecast, we will be in touch with you a few days before the workshop with more information.
What do I do if I cannot afford the suggested donation?
We encourage everyone to make an offering commensurate with your means, and in an amount that feels powerful to you - such gifts make workshops like these possible. We also do not want money to be a barrier to entry. Therefore our workshop is offered freely: please select the "Equity Admission" option if it applies to you. If you can afford to make a bigger donation, your contribution will support this opportunity for those with more limited available funds. We also do not want money to be a barrier to entry. Please contact us if you are not able to make a donation at this time.
