About this Event
Looking to develop your understanding of soil health and the results of a soil test. Join us Friday, October 18th from 1pm-4pm to hear from Dr. Yamily Zavala from the Chinook Applied Research Association Soil Health lab. Dr. Yamily will discuss how to interpret the results of a soil sample and the importance of healthy soil. Stay for networking and refreshments.
This event will focus on an exploration of samples taken by producers local to the region. We will explore how to understand the results of a soil test, key indicators to watch for and tests that can be done at home to help monitor soil health. We will also discuss the importance of healthy soil, what happens in the soil and how we affect the soil. While the focus of the day will be on learning about soil sampling, there will be time after the talk for networking and socializing.
Dr. Yamily works at Chinook Applied Research Association managing the Soil Health Lab, the first of its kind in Western Canada. Dr. Yamily has years of experience working as a crop production consultant, as well as managing CARA’s Crop and Soil program and the Soil Health Lab. Yamily is dedicated to developing producers’ knowledge on soil health and believes increased knowledge around soil health is the best way to develop interest in soil health.
This Farm club meeting was organised by Organic Alberta with generous funding from Calgary Foundation
