This 8-week introductory course offers hands-on experience in recording and producing music in a professional digital studio environment. Sessions take place on Monday evenings from 5:30pm to 8:30pm in The Bunker, a state-of-the-art recording facility.
Designed for complete beginners, no prior experience is required. You’ll be introduced to the core tools, technologies, and techniques used in modern music production, including:
- Recording process fundamentals
- Microphone technology & technique
- Analogue mic preamplifiers
- Computer systems for audio
- Pro Tools software operation
- Control surface navigation
- Capturing the best artist performances
- Health & safety in the studio
- Mixing techniques & use of plugins
- Understanding file formats
By the end of the course, you’ll have gained practical skills and the confidence to work in a professional studio setting, providing a strong foundation for further study or personal music projects.
About the Tutor:
The course is taught by an experienced studio producer, Andy Guy with over 32 years in the industry. He has designed and built more than a dozen recording studios in the UK and the USA and holds a degree in Music Engineering Technology. His training includes mentorship from Michael Pounds, a former student of Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails), and studio acoustic design guidance from John Storyk, designer of Jimi Hendrix’s Electric Ladyland Studios. Alongside production work, he is an active musician, singer, guitarist, and composer for the industrial metal band Chasing Ophelia.
