Whether you are a beginner eager to understand the art of garment design or someone wishing to enhance your existing skills, this one-day workshop will provide you with the essential foundations of pattern cutting and guide you through the process of drafting your own jacket pattern from scratch.

Participants will gain hands-on experience and learn key skills which can be adapted to many sewing projects.

What will I learn?

  • Measurement taking from body and reference garments - you may wish to bring along a favourite garment for inspiration.
  • Professional pattern drafting techniques to create the body and sleeve templates.
  • Adding details: Button Stand, Collar, Pockets.
  • Tracing off and adding seam allowances.
  • Fitting and manufacture information.
  • All tools and materials will be provided for use during the workshop.

Additional Information:

  • Duration: 5 hours (1 hour lunch break)
  • Hours: 10am – 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 4pm
  • Skill Level: Suitable for all levels and no prior experience is necessary.
  • Location: The historical market town of Faversham on the North Kent coast which is easily accessible from London with regular direct trains from Victoria and St Pancras Stations.

Timothy O’Sullivan is a Senior Lecturer in Pattern Cutting at Ravensbourne University, London who shares his passion for exploring drape and cutting techniques through his Instagram account

He is also a regular contributor to The Design Museum, London and Merchant & Mills, Rye, creating fashion focused workshops.

His past work as a Creative Pattern Cutter has featured in British and Italian Vogue, on the Oscars Red Carpet and the catwalks of London, Milan, and New York.
