*Please note 13th Jan and 24th Feb will be taught on Zoom.
You are welcome to join for breakfast from 8:30 and morning prayers with the college community at 9am. Teaching will start at 9.30am and finish at 12.30pm (with a coffee break) and you are welcome to stay for lunch with students and staff.
Topics include: introducing the New Testament, the Canon, interpreting the New Testament, the Gospels, and Paul.
• An introduction to the context and composition of the New Testament.
• Exploration of selected genres and/or theological themes found in the New Testament through representative texts which will include selections from a Synoptic Gospel and a non-synoptic text.
• Study of these texts against their broader historical, literary, theological and cultural backgrounds.
• Introduction of various tools, methods and approaches used in modern biblical scholarship to interpret these texts with an evaluation of the underlying concepts and principles.
• Exploration of what might constitute appropriate interpretations and applications of these texts in the life, mission and ministry of the contemporary church.
Taught by Dave Horsfall:
Dave gained a BA and MSc from Leeds University in Geography and Politics and Sustainability respectively before entering into pastoral ministry. Dave was a pastor at Mosaic Church Leeds from 2012-2017 and an elder from 2014- 2021. In 2016 Dave started working for Leeds School of Theology and became the Director of the school in 2019. Dave gained a GDip and MA in Theology, Mission and Ministry from St Hild and is now studying towards a PhD in Theology at Durham University.
Dave splits his time between academic study and teaching theology. He is one of the main tutors at Leeds School of Theology equipping Christians from local churches in a non-accredited setting. Dave is a visiting lecturer in New Testament studies at St Hild and has taught Christology there as well. Dave also teaches with CYM on Practical Theology and Biblical Studies.
