Introduction to Nature Journaling
Join professional artist, Amelia Kaiser, at Pomona Grange Park in Burlington to learn the art and science of Nature Journaling.
Together, you will go over some key concepts of journaling outside, then follow a few prompts to guide your time observing, sketching and following your curiosity. You will leave with the ability to repeat these steps and connect more deeply with the outdoors wherever your next adventure takes you!
You don’t need to have any prior experience to enjoy this workshop. Nature Journaling makes use of visual art, written observation, poetry, scientific hypothesis, math and so much more! But you don’t need expert-level skills to succeed; a good nature journaling session is measured by increased presence and awareness. Not by making a pretty picture or a grand discovery. Leave your self-judgement behind and come prepared to grow in curiosity in the great outdoors.
Materials Needed:
Weather permitting, we will spend much of this class outside. Please feel free to bring your own art materials, or used the supplies provided.
- Please come dressed for the forecast.
- Water bottle and some snacks.
- Sketchbook
- Pencil
- Waterproof Pen (micron pens work great)
- Coloring medium (colored pencils work great)
- Sit pad or light-weight camp chair (optional for comfort while sketching in the field)
Important Note: Amelia believes going without your phone will help you gain the most from your nature journaling experience. While this is entirely optional, she invites you to leave your phone in your car, or with a dedicated staff member that we will highlight at the start of our time together. If you wish to take part in a phone-free experience, but have concerns about loved ones being able to reach you, we are happy to provide the phone number of a staff member on site who will be available to take calls, and alert you, should something come up.
