Introduction to Flamenco - All Abilities
Are you ready to learn about the captivating world of Flamenco music and dance? Join us for an engaging class where you'll discover the essence of Flamenco in an easy-to-follow format.
Learn the fundamental elements, including basic steps and concepts such as hand and arm movements, body techniques, low-impact footwork, rhythmic hand clapping, and the spirited "jaleo" (words of encouragement like "Olé").
This class is designed to deepen your appreciation for Flamenco, whether you're watching it live or online. No Flamenco shoes are required, and chairs will be provided for those who prefer to be seated. Don't miss this opportunity to explore the passion and rhythm of Flamenco!
TIMES: 12:30 - 2:00 PM PST and 2:30 - 4:00PM PST
LENGTH: 1.5 hours
LOCATION: Please arrive 30 minutes prior to your workshop time to allow time to check-in. The check-in tent is located on the east side of Strathcona Park.
AGES: Youth & Adults (youth under 16 must be accompanied by an adult), beginner & up
PRICE: $20 per person per workshop
ACCESSIBILITY: The event site is on grass, gravel, and uneven terrain, there is no ramp access to the park. The open-air work setting will have ambient noise, conversational sound levels, and loud areas with the noise of food truck generators. Washrooms on site will be gender-neutral portable structures, with one wheelchair-accessible portable washroom. We will communicate verbally with members of the public using listening and spoken language in English. Please let us know if you have any accessibility needs.
Jhoely Triana, born in Colombia, is a Vancouver based flamenco dance artist. Jhoely trained at the Goh Ballet Academy, completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Contemporary Dance at Simon Fraser University, and studied at Al Mozaico Flamenco and Rosario Flamenco. She has presented work in Vancouver, North Vancouver, Coquitlam, Surrey, Victoria, Kelowna and Prince George. Jhoely has also travelled to Spain, Poland and the USA for professional development intensives. Jhoely's work emphasizes connection to the audience through authenticity of emotion and vulnerability.
~~~ In addition to participating in this workshop, your ticket grants you access to our General Admission Create! Art Zone at Strathcona Park on July 27th from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The Art Zone features multiple drop-in public art activities, access to the Festival Art Shop, a beer garden, food trucks, and live music presented in partnership with Light Organ Records & 604 Records. To enter the Art Zone, simply show your workshop ticket.~~~~

If you would like to cancel your attendance, we will offer you a refund, provided that you inform us at least 4 days prior to the scheduled event.
