About this Event

Introduction to Embroidery

Discover a range of easy hand embroidery stitches and design your own project! Whether you want to experiment with different textures or prefer the simplicity of a single stitch, this workshop is perfect for you.

We'll start by creating a stitch sampler to learn basic techniques and become familiar with the materials. This sampler will also serve as a reference as you work on your piece. Each participant will then design their own unique pattern and transfer it onto fabric.

You'll receive an embroidery hoop and guidance in selecting stitches and color combinations. Embroidery is an art best enjoyed at a meditative pace, so feel free to take your work home to continue at your leisure.

All materials will be provided and gifted to you for future projects. Get ready to dive into the wonderful world of hand embroidery!

About the Artist

Ava Katz is a multimedia artist and educator with a BFA from Emily Carr University of Art and Design. They are drawn to textiles for their sensory qualities and the domestic and bodily stories they hold. With a background in painting and drawing and a love for sewing, they have developed innovative interdisciplinary processes. In their sculptural works, they apply painterly techniques to large-scale textile forms, creating objects that evoke a desire for interaction through their rich tactility. With embroidery, they combine spontaneous design gestural with the meditative intentionality of the stitch.
